Check my options — understand your debt routes
Is any of this happening right now?
If something is urgent we will show you what to do about it before anything else. You can still carry on afterwards.
Deal with this first
These are time-limited situations where acting today changes the outcome. None of this costs anything and none of it needs us.
If you would rather speak to someone free right now, National Debtline and StepChange both give free advice with no obligation.
Roughly how much unsecured debt do you have?
An estimate is fine. Do not include your mortgage or anything secured on your home.
How many organisations do you owe money to?
Count each company separately, even if you have two accounts with the same bank.
Which debts are causing you the most difficulty?
Choose as many as apply. Some of these are priority debts with much more serious consequences than others, and we will flag that.
What is your housing situation?
This is one of the biggest factors in which solutions are realistic. Owning a home rules out a Debt Relief Order entirely, and affects the length of an IVA.
Are you currently working?
Your income source affects what a repayment plan can realistically look like.
After essential bills, roughly how much is left each month?
Essentials means rent or mortgage, council tax, utilities, food, travel and childcare — not credit repayments. If the honest answer is nothing, say nothing. It changes which options make sense.
Where in the UK do you live?
We ask because Scotland and Northern Ireland have entirely different debt legislation. We use the postcode area only — the first letters — to work out which rules apply to you.
Here is your situation, as you have described it.
This is a summary of what you told us. It is not an assessment, and it does not say what you qualify for — only a person authorised to advise you can do that, after looking properly at your finances.
